My Review

This is another brilliant historical fiction by Tania Crosse.  As with the other books from this author this one has some adrenaline pumping suspense interwoven in a gripping historical read that had me turning page after page.

Rebecca is happy living in her remote village and is in love with Tom the only fly in the ointment is that her father won’t allow them to wed until Tom has completed his apprenticeship and can provide a suitable home for them.

As the story unfolds we follow Rebecca from one tragic loss that is just the beginning of a chain of events that will test Rebecca to the limit as the reader is invited in to life in the hard times of life back then.

Thrown into the mix is Fred, evilness personified and determined to ruin Rebecca financially, physically and mentally.  This adds adrenaline pumping suspense to the story.

The characters are realistic and fit the story perfectly.  Rebecca with her spirit is offset perfectly by her sister, Sarah who is much softer and gentler.  Adam, a man who loves Rebecca but has put up walls of steel to protect his heart.  A kind gentle man totally misunderstood by Rebecca.  The pair were thrown together by circumstances but can they find happiness and love?

What really makes the story for me is the absolutely brilliant description of the area and scenery which puts the reader into the time zone and area perfectly.  The author’s note at the end informing the reader about Morwellham Quay was the icing on the cake at the end of a brilliant read.

5 stars from me.
