From bestselling author: Stewart Giles comes another brilliant addition to the Detective Jason Smith series.

Police officers are being killed in York. The murders are cold, calculated and methodical. This killer leaves nothing behind except a sense of dread.

When someone Detective Jason Smith has worked with ends up dead it becomes personal, but this phantom leaves nothing to even hint at why this is happening.

The only breakthrough in the case comes from several witnesses who claim to have seen a ghost-like figure around the time of the murders.

Facing ghosts of his own, and on the brink of a breakdown Smith is pushed even further over the edge when he discovers the sick reality behind these murders.

This isn’t about murder – this is about something else altogether.

These ghosts will haunt Jason Smith for the rest of his life.

My Review

Detective Jason Smith is back in this brilliant addition to the series.  Will this be the case to finally break the unbreakable DS Smith?

Smith is still struggling to cope with nearly losing his family in Australia.  The dreams are horrific and the double awakenings terrifying.  Afraid of going to sleep because of the dreams he is struggling but determined not to be beaten.

However, that was before a murder apparently carried out by a ghost.  But ghosts don’t exist… Or do they?

As the pressure builds and the death count rises Smith finds himself in a race to work out what is going on before anyone else dies.  But no motive, no clues and the randomness of the victims where on earth do they start?

This is a gripping read that had me as flummoxed as the detectives.  Who, why, when and where next were questions all racing around in my head looking for answers but I had no clue until all is revealed in an ending that was simply mind blowing.

Another brilliant read from a favourite author.

Author Profile

After reading English at 3 Universities and graduating from none of them, I set off travelling around the world with my wife, Ann, finally settling in South Africa, where we still live.

In 2014 Ann dropped a rather large speaker on my head and I came up with the idea for a detective series. DS Jason Smith was born. Smith, the first in the series was finished a few months later.

3 years and 8 DS Smith books later, Joffe Books wondered if I would be interested in working with them. As a self-published author, I agreed. However, we decided on a new series – the DC Harriet Taylor: Cornwall series.

The Beekeeper was published and soon hit the number one spot in Australia. The second in the series, The Perfect Murder did just as well.

I continued to self-publish the Smith series and Unworthy hit the shelves in 2018 with amazing results.  I therefore made the decision to self-publish The Backpacker which is book 3 in the Detective Harriet Taylor series which was published in July 2018.

After The Backpacker I had an idea for a totally new start to a series – a collaboration between the Smith and Harriet thrillers and The Enigma was born. It brought together the broody, enigmatic Jason Smith and the more level-headed Harriet Taylor.

The Miranda trilogy is something totally different. A psychological thriller trilogy. It is a real departure from anything else I’ve written before.

The Detective Jason Smith series continues to grow with book 17 now available. In addition I have an new series featuring an Irish detective who relocated to Guernsey. The first 5 books in the Detective Liam O’Reilly series are now available. There are also 2 stand alone novels with another on the way.
