Lizzie Fry is another brilliant author to join JOFFE BOOKS so I was very much looking forward to reading this book and I wasn’t disappointed. It is everything I expect from a psychological thriller and more. I was gripped from the very first page.
A mother living with her son and abusive husband until one day at just 8 years old Jack kills his father. He was just protecting his mother! Wasn’t he? Natasha must protect her son, and she does they have got away with it. Life moves on. 10 years pass and they are living a relatively normal life until Natasha begins a relationship with Steve, then it becomes clear – Jack is not a normal he has a dark side and now Steve is dead and Natasha is once again having to ‘save’ her son. But not just save him, she realises they must learn to live ‘on the dark side’.
It took me some time to get to like the characters but they did grow on me and their personalities fit the story very well. They develop well over the course of the book and even at the end you realise there is still so much you didn’t know about them.
The story is gripping the pages keep turning and I found myself reading ‘just one more chapter’.
Many twists and turns throughout with a lot of shocks as secrets are revealed and the ending is fast paced and mind blowing. A very good read that will appeal to readers of crime fiction.
