WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO AVOID A SCANDAL?

American heiress Laurel Van Gilder has arrived in Oxford to present a prestigious award. Laurel rents a bicycle and crashes into a car belonging to Professor Gideon Welles. Knocked unconscious, she is taken to hospital and wakes the next day, Gideon having stayed by her side all night. Bickering and sniping at each other over whose fault it was, they are relieved to see the back of each other, but there is a spark Laurel can’t ignore.

Days later, at the gala to present the award, guess who is the winner?

SCANDALOUS LOVE AND MYSTERIOUS ATTRACTION

That evening, a precious heirloom, belonging to Laurel’s family and being given to the award-winner, is stolen. Despite their caustic relations up to now, Laurel turns to Gideon for assistance. Although he’s infuriating, she’s actually rather besotted with him.

Can they solve the mystery without involving the police and avoid bringing scandal to the college?

My Review

Laurel is still mourning the death of her dad and trying to get to grips with the new responsibilities resulting from it and has travelled from America to Oxford in England to present an award at Oxford university.  She has bought a bicycle to tour the area and do some sightseeing when she crashes into Gideon’s car.

From there it is a bumpy road for the pair as they try hard to hate each other while at the same time ignoring the chemistry between them.  Then during the presentation ceremony the valuable chalice goes missing.  The thief has to be someone at the ceremony but who and how?

This is a romantic suspense in the true nature of the genre there is the amateur investigation to provide intrigue and the love-hate relationship to provide romance and the suspense of will they wont they.

Character wise the author makes a good job of describing the characters to the reader and we learn more about them as the book progresses.

This is an easy read with an enjoyable story is there a happy ending?  You will have to read it to find out.

Many thanks to Joffe Books for the advance copy.  All thoughts and opinions are my own and not biased in any way.
