Stewart and I would like to say a massive THANK YOU to all the wonderful bloggers and reviewers who helped with the launch of WISHBONE. Your valuable help is very much appreciated, you are awesome.

What the bloggers and reviewers thought

Linda Strong Book Reviews  The suspense starts on the very first page and maintains a light level throughout. Action abounds within a well-plotted story like. The characters are solid and I really liked seeing the professional blend with the personal lives of Smith and his family. The conclusion came fast and was totally unexpected.

Loopy Laura  The pace of the plot is completely relentless and this is a real page turner of a book. There are not many suspects to choose from, unless it is a deranged fan, and the police are anxious to get ahead of the killer to prevent any more sickening murders. Our witnessing of the lyrics ramps up the anticipation of the murders which we then experience too, dreading what we know will happen but unable to tear our eyes away from the page!

The Word is Out  This is a thoroughly engrossing read from start to finish as Smith and the team battle to protect the people of York and find the key to these baffling crimes. I can’t recommend this entire series enough! 5*

Debbie Hipster  They literally hit the ground running and the tension is ramped up immediately, so I wouldn’t say it’s an easy beachy read. As I get so caught up in it, I’d be burnt to a crisp!!

Nicki’s book blog  I love this series, despite the gore (just the very occasional brief description) these reads are ones you can easily settle into and disappear – hours disappear as the pages turn so very easily and I find myself immersed in a different world.

Ginger Book Geek Reading ‘Wishbone’ certainly felt like being on one heck of a scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with several twists and turns along the way.  The series featuring DS Jason Smith goes from strength to strength and just gets better and better.

Avonna Loves Genres This story, like all the other DS Jason Smith thrillers, is fast paced, well plotted and gives a thoroughly satisfying conclusion.

Beyond the Books

Sue Loves to Read

Turn The Page Blog

Black Books Blog  Overall this is more gruesome than most of Stewart’s previous books and I can only imagine what he is going to put Smith through next.

Lena  WISHBONE presents a horrifying, gruesome discovery. A blood curdling, reprehensible incident follows. There seems to be a mysterious correlation to, not only to another event, but to a macabre group of people and their equally bizarre activities. Suspense skyrockets after heart-stopping evidence comes to light. The unfathomable conundrum grows until it explodes into a dynamite finish.

Booklover Bev  This author has put so much work into this book and has hit hard chapter after chapter well done.

Carol  There are some gruesome scenes, which gave me goosebumps, but they are relevant to the plot. You can’t have murder and Death Metal without some horror! Give it a go, you won’t be disappointed.

Kirsty  I do love Jason Smith and this latest is just as good as I’d hoped! As always, so fast-paced and well written with sharp witty dialogue and characters you just can’t get enough of.

From bestselling author: Stewart Giles comes another brilliant addition to the Detective Jason Smith series

‘BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR.’

These seemingly innocent song lyrics are about to send Detective Jason Smith over the edge.

Still traumatised after a harrowing trip back home, Smith is sent headlong into the stuff of nightmares when he returns to work.

When a woman is found dead with her spinal cord severed Smith and his team are thrown into the most disturbing investigation ever. Then another body is found and when Smith realises what this woman was subjected to he knows he’s on the trail of the most sadistic killer he’s ever come across.

All clues point to a Death Metal band. Wishbone are in town for a few shows and when Smith realises all the murders bear striking similarities to their song lyrics he starts to wonder if there is something more to this band than meets the eye.

This is the most horrifying case of Smith’s career and one the people of York will never forget.

My Review

Smith is back it is like visiting with an old friend.  I have followed Smith from a wayward teenager and watched him grow and develop into the brilliant detective he now is.  He has grown up it took a while ha ha.  So now we have book 16: Wishbone and before I started reading I had to wonder what Stewart Giles had in store for him this time.  As always I wasn’t to be disappointed it is another adrenaline pumping addition to the series.

Smith, Whitton and Laura are all recovering from their traumatic holiday in Australia and Smith and Whitton have not yet returned to work.  But we know Jason Smith he is climbing the walls so it is time for him to get back to doing what he does best: tracking down and bringing to justice the criminals of York.

First body is the horrific discovery of a young woman who has been murdered with a violence that York has never seen but more is to come.

As the investigation progresses it becomes clear there is a definite link to a Death Metal Band named Wishbone.  But is it a fan or the band?  With very few clues around the team has their work cut out trying to find out what is going on.

Another absolutely brilliant, adrenaline pumping story from the brilliant Stewart Giles guaranteed to have you on the edge of your seat all the way to an ending you wont see coming.

Stewart Giles – Author Bio

After reading English at 3 Universities and graduating from none of them, I set off travelling around the world with my wife, Ann, finally settling in South Africa, where we still live.

In 2014 Ann dropped a rather large speaker on my head and I came up with the idea for a detective series. DS Jason Smith was born. Smith, the first in the series was finished a few months later.

3 years and 8 DS Smith books later, Joffe Books wondered if I would be interested in working with them. As a self-published author, I agreed. However, we decided on a new series – the DC Harriet Taylor: Cornwall series.

The Beekeeper was published and soon hit the number one spot in Australia. The second in the series, The Perfect Murder did just as well.

I continued to self-publish the Smith series and Unworthy hit the shelves in 2018 with amazing results.  I therefore made the decision to self-publish The Backpacker which is book 3 in the Detective Harriet Taylor series which was published in July 2018.

After The Backpacker I had an idea for a totally new start to a series – a collaboration between the Smith and Harriet thrillers and The Enigma was born. It brings together the broody, enigmatic Jason Smith and the more level-headed Harriet Taylor.

The Miranda trilogy is something totally different. A psychological thriller trilogy. It is a real departure from anything else I’ve written before.

The Detective Jason Smith series continues to grow and there are now 16 books including the introduction: Phobia.
