What the reviewers thought:

Linda Strong Book Reviews  It’s easy to get lost in the non-stop action that begins on the very first page. The suspense is wrapped around deftly drawn characters. Although 6th in the series, this is easily read as a stand alone, but I do recommend starting at the beginning. The backstory is not to be missed. The ending comes in fast and furious … and explosive.

Ginger Book Geek  ‘Subterfuge’ is well written.  The authors certainly know how to grab your attention from the start and draw you into what proves to be a fast paced and gripping read.  I was gripped by this book from start to finish and on the edge of my seat throughout.

Sassy Redhead Book Reviews  I really enjoyed this story. It is action packed and engaging from the first page until the end. The characters are entertaining, determined and focused while working to get the needed information to bring down the drug dealers.

The Word is Out  There are some excellent twists and surprises as the cartels and detectives hurtle on a collision course to a dramatic and exciting ending. Well written, with some great characters (I particularly liked Marty and Mary Ann) and overall it is a very enjoyable story.

Beyond the Books My attention was grabbed from the first page in this fast-paced and thrilling book. It was a rollercoaster of a read with twists and turns aplenty. The authors realistic and brilliant storytelling had me feeling like part of the story and that is the key to a great book. A brilliant introduction to a new series for me.

Lena  SUBTERFUGE is the fifth book in the Detective Tom Stone series and every book got better and better and SUBTERFUGE is no exception! Pages and pages of harrowing suspense, exciting, heart-racing action, international conspiracies and intrigue culminating in a spectacular, explosive event.

Never give up.
Not even when you’re forced into the deadly world of smuggling
cocaine. A gripping and riveting detective thriller.

A man fighting for his life washes up on a secluded Malibu beach with blue canisters bobbing in the water.

Detective Tom Stone jumps into action in this gripping crime thriller novel and uncovers human trafficking as drug smugglers try a new trick.

The Ojos Negros cartel is back and bolder than ever, forming an uneasy alliance with LA mob boss Frank DeVito. Using hidden sea caves as drop-off points, the new syndicate maneuvers to expand their brutal drug empire, and guns down anyone who stands in their way.

Stone and his team trail the lone survivor, Luis Delgado, who longs to return home to Mexico but is trapped in a deadly game of subterfuge. He vows revenge on the evil men who have destroyed his life and countless others with their greed.

The Detectives race to find Delgado and bring down the cartel, before another innocent victim is killed.

Page-turning action uncovers narco-subs plying the seas–and leading to an explosive ending.

Book 5 in the Tom Stone Detective Stories is a stand-alone read.

My Review

I love the way that despite being part of a series these books work perfectly as stand alone.

A secluded Malibu beach is not where you would expect to find blue canisters bobbing about along with several bodies.  But, against the odds, there is a survivor.  It soon becomes clear that Tom Stone and his team are once again investigating the dark and dangerous world of drugs and human trafficking.

Delgado is just a simple Mexican fisherman who along with is son was bullied into boarding a submarine by gun wielding thugs.  He escaped execution but his son didn’t and he is now after the man who caused his son’s death but that man is the centre of a struggle for power among the drug cartels.

This is a fast moving story with many twists and turns and a lot of adrenaline pumping action that keeps the pages turning all the way to the very explosive ending.

A very enjoyable read I am looking forward to more in this series.

Many thanks to the author for the advance digital copy of this book.  These are my unbiased thoughts.

Don Simkovitch

Don returned to his love for writing fiction after years of writing and narrating a radio spot series, marketing copy, and handling the pressures of a wild and crazy family life.

Frequent calls to the local Sheriff’s office, plus the intensity of handling teen alcoholism and teen pregnancy pressed stories from his mind like Earth’s weighty layers turn shale into harvestable fuel.

Well, you get the picture.

Don has fine-tuned his craft writing romance to crime fiction and the recent Tom Stone detective stories.

He lives at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains with his family, two dogs, and anyone else who happens to drop by and live for a spell.
