On the Shelf Reviews
I have no idea where to start with this novel, there’s just so much packed into it! There’s murder, kidnapping, dodgy business men, gangsters…see what I mean? That isn’t even the tip of the iceberg. Read more here
Linda Strong Book Reviews
There are twists and turns galore with a riveting ending. Reading this author’s other books/series, I expected a suspenseful mystery filled with nefarious suspects and otherwise, solid characters … and I was not disappointed. Read more here
Ginger Book Geek
Wowzers Helen H. Durrant has come up with the goods again and this is one hell of a read. The story hits the ground running and maintains the pace throughout. From the moment I picked the book up, I was hooked on the story. Read more here
Joanna Larum’s Reviews
Written in Helen Durrant’s inimitable style, this is not a book which the reader will pick up and put down. The reader is impelled to keep turning the pages until the end is reached and one is left with a burning desire to read the next one in the series. Read more here
The Quiet Geordie
There were plenty of twists and turns to the plot. Every time I thought I had worked out whodunnit, I’d discover it was yet another red herring. Read more here
Black Books Blog
The book starts off fast and the plot and story line don’t slow down until the end, which I felt was very well written and tied up most of the loose ends very nicely. Read more here

Donna’s Book Blog
This is a well written, enjoyable story. I will be honest and say that it didn’t really grip me like her other books have done and I did find it almost a little bit more of a cosy crime at times than a fast paced action police procedural but it was a great story and I enjoyed reading it, and there is nothing wrong with a bit of cosy crime every now and again! Beth in a Box
The plot-itself is fast paced with little unnecessary fluff to get bogged down with.
The Other Victim is a cracking read and I really recommend it if crime fiction is your sort of thing.
So after reading all of Helen’s detective novels I got so excited when she released her latest “His third victim” and I was NOT disappointed. This is a nail biting page turner for sure. Full of twist you do not see coming. Read more here

I’m one of the ‘baby boomer’ generation. I was born in Edinburgh to an English father and Scottish mother. My father was from the North West of England and this was where the family settled.
I know the area well, both the good and the bad, and so I set my books here. Sitting between two counties, Lancashire and Yorkshire, and between the city and the hills, it offers a rich mix of the industrial and the countryside and all the character therein. I always planned to write crime novels — to create the characters in my books. Since my retirement from a busy teaching job in FE, this is what I’ve done — almost to exclusion of anything else!
I have a grown-up family and five grandchildren. They see me as something of an eccentric — always on my laptop writing away. Writing is something of a second career and, despite having a bus pass, keeps me busy, young and tuned in the world as it currently is.
