Extinction Event by MR John Day

Initial thoughts:
I read and loved Bent Penny so went looking through John Day’s back list to find something to plug the gap until the sequel is written and chose Extinction Event. This book grabs you from the very first page with fast packed action. Characters are introduced quickly and effectively. It looks like it will be a case of ‘fasten your seat belt its going to be a bumpy ride’
Review:
I cant begin to imagine the amount of research that went into this book but it must have been years. The book involves submarines, paragliding, computer systems……. My initial thoughts that it was going to be a bumpy ride was right the book contained suspense by the bucket load love, murder, betrayal, kidnapping there was that much going on that it was difficult to keep up at times.
Max and Carla are very interesting characters that are developed throughout the book very successfully. I feel I can see them in my mind due to the descriptive text throughout the book. The ending is a real cliffhanger that will have you downloading the next book to see what happens.
I am finding that John Day creates very unique characters and writes the story in such a way that you are never sure who is the baddie. He is a very tallented author and I am enjoying working my way through his back list while waiting for him to write the sequel to Bent Penny.

Initial thoughts
This is the second book in the Carla and Max series and having loved book 1 I am very much looking forward to continuing the story. First impressions are that it is every bit as gripping as book 1.
Review
Book 1 was left on a massive cliffhanger so I was looking forward to reading this book. There is something slightly annoying about having to re-read the final chapter at the beginning of this book I do realise that John has to allow for readers who havent read book 1 but still….
Carla and Max again find themselves in trouble and helping each other and the ‘Organisation’ out. Carla’s sister, Amy, and Max’s son James also make an appearance in this book.
Some of the antics and situations are a bit far fetched but it is fiction and makes for a very good read. There is a fair amount of humour threading through the book interlaced with the horror. Most of the character building took place in book 1 and this book develops Carla and Max’ relationship and that with James and Amy so I would recommend reading these books in order.
I love John’s books there is so much going on all the time that there is no time to get bored as the reader is taken on a rollercoaster ride through the book.
A very gripping book that keeps the reader turning the pages.
I am trying to work out where the stem cells are heading but I am sure all will be revealed in time.
This book ends on another cliffhanger that had me downloading the next book before writing this review. Well worth the 5 stars

This is the 3rd book in the Carla and Max series. Book 2 ended with a real cliffhanger which had me downloading this book straight away.
I am growing to really love John Day’s books they are thrillers with a totally different and unique twist and have a bit of comedy interlaced among the action. There are also some steamy sex scenes, which personally I could do without but they appeal to a lot of people so I can live with them.
The book picks up where Fire Ice was left and we find Max has lost his memory. The book then splits into 2 different stories as we follow Carla as she tries to continue with her job and trying to find Max at the same time. The other story follows Max as he goes on the run from just about everyone and ends up being helped by a young woman with many issues.
As I have grown to expect from John the book is action packed and we see several dangling threads from book 1 and 2 brought together in a totally riveting finale.
I am not sure if John is planning any further books but there are options there if he decides to continue but no unanswered questions which is a very big bonus in my opinion.
All John’s books are well written and expertly proof read so contain none of the typos and grammatical errors you tend to find in books by self published authors.
I recommend this book to any thriller readers and to anyone who is looking for something a little bit different from an author who can definitely think ‘outside the box’. Well worth the 5 stars.
