Kendra Elliott: A Merciful Death

A Merciful Death (Mercy Kilpatrick, #1)A Merciful Death by Kendra Elliot

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was provided with an ARC of this book, by Netgalley, in return for an honest review.

I am a big fan of Kendra Elliott and was very excited to be given the opportunity to read this advance copy. This is a new series of Kendra’s and I loved the Bones and Callahan & McLane series so was looking forward to the new series.

Mercy Kilpatrick is the major character and is an FBI agent who is given the task of looking in to some murders in the hometown she fled 15 years before.. Mercy was brought up in Eagle’s Nest and is a member of a prepper family and has therefore been brought up to always be prepared to be self-sufficient in the event of a major disaster. Elderly preppers are being murdered and Mercy and another FBI agent, Eddie, are assigned to investigate. This results in Mercy returning to her hometown and facing her estranged family. She is a very independent character and has erected walls to protect herself from being hurt.

Truman Daly is another major character and he too has baggage following the death of a colleague he accepted a position in Eagle’s Nest to escape the nightmares. He is familiar with the town as he spent holidays there as a youngster.

The 2 find themselves working together as the past comes back to haunt them and different lives and cases become entangled. There are many twists and turns in this very gripping story that will have you turning pages well into the night.

It is well written with well-rounded characters. Eddie is an interesting character who stayed in the background for much of the book but I am sure he will be reappearing in future books.

I am looking forward to more in this series. A well-deserved 5 stars
