I’ve Been Watching You by K.A. Richardson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Now here is the thing: I was asked by a friend to read one of KA Richardson’s books and give my opinion. It seemed a strange request so it was with some trepidation I searched on Kindle books and downloaded I’ve Been Watching You (this is book 2 but book 1 was not available on Kindle Unlimited and I didn’t want to buy a book I probably wouldn’t like). I was surprised how much I liked it. I had a little trouble getting used to the strange format but the content I had no problem with.
Ben is the main character (Ben is female the reason for the strange name is explained in the book) and she was assaulted and raped 5 years ago and left for dead but managed to cling to life. Her attacker was never caught. She managed to survive her injuries but is understandably damaged but she put her experience to good use and became a member of the Police force and helps others in her spare time.
She is first on scene at a gruesome murder and recognises the injuries on the victim and that sets in motion a sequence of events that puts her back on the Killer’s radar.
The book has several stories running together and I struggled a bit to follow them and was unsure what the relevance was to one story but all becomes clear as the book progresses. There are many curve balls throughout the book and I found it very difficult to put down.
The main story was, I felt a little like a different take on many other thrillers but it has enough uniqueness about it to make it different. The characters are all unique individuals and are introduced to the reader in a way that builds the character and makes the reader get to know them without resorting to lengthy descriptions of the surroundings that may bore the reader.
All in all I was pleasantly surprised and will be reading more from this author. However, I am still unsure what I was supposed to ‘think’ while reading it.
Well deserved 4.8 stars.
