Working with Joffe Books – by Faith Martin
When I was first approached by Joffe books last summer, and Jasper asked me if I would be interested in him reproducing my DI Hillary Greene series as brand new, up-to-date ebooks, I said “yes please” very fast! Although my books had done very well in libraries for many years (I was almost exclusively published in hardback) I knew very little about digital publishing (and still don’t, if I’m honest). And I think we all thought (myself, my agent and probably Jasper himself) that they might do quite well, and at least earn us some extra coppers to help fill my poor (and very thin!) little piggy bank.
But I think I’m right in saying that we had no idea that they would do quite as well as they have! Since last October, when the first of the series came out, they have now sold over half-a-million around the world! They regularly hit the No.1 spot on the Amazon Kindle bestsellers lists in Australia, and the latest, Murder at Work, hit the No1 spot here in the UK just last week. They also regularly appear in the Canada top 20, and even make it into the USA top 100. Needless to say, I was flabberghasted. (I have no idea what a flabber is, but mine was definitely ghasted!)
And working with Joffe books is just great – and very easy. I’m not the best on a computer (as my long-suffering friends and agent can testify) and it was made very easy for me to proof-read and update the books. Not only that, but Jasper sent me lovely flowers – first when we hit the 500,000 sales mark, and again when my novel made the UK No1 spot. (I even received chocolates on my birthday! OK – I’ll admit that the chocolates were more appreciated than the flowers, but that’s just me….!)
And now Joffe Books are going to bring out my Travelling Cook series later this year! How great is that?
THE HILLARY GREENE SERIES
THE LOCATION
The Oxford Canal meanders through the beautiful county of Oxfordshire, sometimes joining up with the rivers Cherwell and Thames, and flows past the world-famous university city of Oxford. Unlike many canals which are practically ruler-straight commercial waterways, built to help transport goods and heavy traffic before the advent of the railways, the Oxford Canal is a more winding and natural-looking body of water, and is a haven for wildlife and wildflowers. It has several romantically-named locks on its length (such as the Three Pigeons Lock, and Dashwood Lock) and boasts the ominously-sounding Somerton Deep Lock, which often terrifies first-time boating holiday-makers.
THE DETECTIVE
An attractive woman in her forties, Hillary Greene is a police officer of many years’ experience, and came up through the ranks. Consequently, she knows how the system works, and is fiercely loyal to the force without being blinkered to its faults.
