The DI Jimmy Bliss series continues in another gripping crime novel.

DI Bliss and his team absorb two new cases which don’t initially present as major crimes.

But who is the man who stepped in front of an express train? Did he willingly commit suicide or was he coerced? And what, if any, connection is there to an abandoned vehicle whose owner cannot be traced?

As Bliss and his team dig deeper they soon realise there are three people now missing – a journalist, a mother, and her young daughter. But as the investigations continue, the team struggle with too many unanswered questions. What they do know is that lives are at risk, and the chances of finding all three still alive decrease with each passing hour…

My Review

DI Jimmy Bliss is back in this stunning addition to the series.

Life is pretty busy in the Major Crimes department so Jimmy Bliss is pretty perplexed when he is called in to the scene of a suicide when I man purposely walks in front of an express train.  There isn’t much left to identify him and Bliss is not convinced this case is something that comes under the Major Crimes remit.  However, there is a witness that suggests he was coerced into it.

In addition an abandoned car is found and that too lands on the Major Crime Team’s desk when traces of blood are found on the driver seat.  What is even more confusing is what was found in the boot and the fact that the owner of the car is a journalist that appears to be missing.

Once the investigating begins it becomes clear there are 3 missing people, a body, an abandoned car, and another vehicle dragged out of a river.  And a LOT of unanswered questions.

From the beginning when nobody was sure a crime had actually been committed in either case it soon becomes clear that lives are at risk and the chances of finding all 3 mispers alive is diminishing with every hour that passes and Bliss is under pressure from above to get the cases cracked.

As the investigation continues we find more and more secrets and mystery in a book that grabs the reader from the very beginning and doesn’t let go.  An adrenaline pumping read that had me guessing all the way to the totally unexpected ending and STILL Tony Forder managed to keep the suspense going for a bit longer.  Brilliant…  Just brilliant.

Characters that keep on giving even 9 books into the series the lives and personalities of the characters continue to bring a lot to the story adding to the enjoyment.

A unique story more entangled than a plate of spaghetti this is an absolutely brilliant read that I highly recommend to anyone who loves Detective stories.

5 stars from me and a big thank you to the author for the advance digital copy of this book in return for my unbiased review.
