Miranda is a unique read, the best book yet by Stewart Giles.  Sentenced to life in a secure hospital for the murder of 12 people Miranda tells her story.

In the meantime, the reader is transported back to the time of the murders as we follow DI Keene and her team along the many twists, turns and dead ends as they try to find the murderer of several unrelated victims.

This is an edge-of-your-seat, adrenaline pumping read that will have you turning the pages all the way to the totally unexpected ending.

Buckle up this is a bumpy ride

The location

Dunford is a fictional town in South West England.

Crowfield is a high security hospital wing attached side of Bowton prison in Otherly, North Yorkshire (also fictional).

My Review

This is a completely stand-alone Psychological Thriller with police procedural thrown in.

OMG Stewart Giles has really pulled it out of the bag this time.  I have read hundreds of crime fiction books but never anything quite like this and I mean that in a very good way.  The story switches from 1st person to 3rd person and different time zones but it all works perfectly.

This is a fast read because I couldn’t put the book down and the suspense is a strong thread running all the way through the story.  The reader is fastened in to their seat and taken on the roller coaster ride of a lifetime totally engrossed in a book that just keeps on giving all the way to the jaw-dropping finale.

Meet Miranda, a series of circumstances throw her onto a path of killing that she never expected but one she gets a real taste for.  The police are following false lead after false lead with innocents being arrested and the additional problems of drugs and street violence thrown into the mix they really are up against it as the killer stands by watching.

Miranda is a unique character, a serial killer but one that I really have to like.  She is nothing special, a loner who is ordinary looking and she blends in to the background silently.  She doesn’t come across as evil but the bodies piling up suggest that she certainly is.  She certainly doesn’t fit the profile of a serial killer either and that adds to the intrigue.

DI Keene is married to a doctor and they are like ships that pass in the night with the responsibilities of their respective jobs.  Trying to keep her marriage together as she struggles with the ever increasing pile of bodies that are totally unconnected it is debatable if some are murders or not.  Life is not easy and just when she has life and work back under control fate steps in.

If you like crime fiction you will love this.  Police Procedural and Psychological Thriller all rolled into one.  No padding, this is all action and high speed action at that.

Definitely 5 golden stars from me this is the best book I have read in a long time.

Stewart Giles Author Bio:

After reading English at 3 Universities and graduating from none of them, I set off travelling around the world with my wife, Ann, finally settling in South Africa, where we still live. After Ann dropped a rather large speaker on my head I came up with the idea for a detective series. DS Jason Smith was born. Smith, the first in the series was finished a few months later. 3 years and 8 DS Smith books later, Joffe Books wondered if I would be interested in working with them. As a self-published author, I agreed. However, we decided on a new series – the DC Harriet Taylor Cornwall series. The Beekeeper hit the shelves and hit the number one spot in Australia. The second in the series, The Perfect Murder did just as well. The third in the series, The Backpacker I have self-published and there are plenty more to come. Unworthy, the ninth Smith instalment was followed by a totally new start to a series – a collaboration between the Smith and Harriet thrillers. Entitled The Enigma, it brings together the broody, enigmatic Jason Smith and the more level-headed Harriet Taylor. Miranda is something totally different. A stand-alone psychological thriller, it is a real departure from anything else I’ve written before. A new Smith/Harriet book is in the pipeline as is the 10th Smith instalment.
