BLOG TOUR – I Thought I Knew You by Meg Buchanan #romance @junctionpublish @MegBuchanan80

In a slight change to what is on the banner I am sharing my post today and BLACK BOOKS BLOG will post on 25th.  I am pleased to be sharing my review of this new release in the Romance genre by Meg Buchanan.  This is book 4 but works excellently as stand alone.

I Thought I Knew You coverI Thought I Knew You (Prelude Series – Part Four) by Meg Buchanan

Available from AMAZON

Luke Reilly’s whole life is mapped out. His father wants him to work in the family business. Tessa wants him to marry her. But he has already broken out of the straight jacket they’ve put him in. And he’s about to get found out.

Can he mend what he’s broken?

Does he want to?

Will he leave and chase the dream, or stay and do what everyone expects?

My Review

This is the first book I have read in this series so I am able to confirm it works well as stand alone.

The story revolves around a band and its members.  The musicians are all young men with their dreams of stardom.

Luke is the main character a good looking young guy with dreams of hitting the big time  He is living a double life but is he happy?

When a talent scout offers them an opportunity it is decision time.  Luke wants to leave all his problems and decisions behind and chase his dream but are his fellow band members as confident?

We all love a good romance occasionally and this is a very realistic portrayal of the hopes and dreams we all have (or had) when we were young.

It is a very good read and perfect for lovers of romance.  It does contain sex scenes.

I live in Paeroa, a small town in New Zealand, with my husband and a black labrador. Most of my books are set in my home town, simply because it has a rich history, and the streets already have names, so do the rivers and the mountain nearby, and the neighbouring towns also have names, so I save time on world building.
I have been writing for seven years. Before that I was a teacher, then a kitchen designer, and for a year, the creator of resources for drug education. But now writing is what I do.

I love creating books about ordinary people doing interesting things. The characters in my story are just a little better looking and more charismatic than in real life, but they think and feel like normal people.

My books cover many genre, action adventure, scifi, historical fiction, and romance. Up until now you won’t find a vampire or werewolf in any them, but in the future, that can’t be completely ruled out.

I wrote Scavenger Hunt to enter it in a national competition, just to see if I could write. It won the competition and really it has all gone on from there.

What the Bloggers thought:

Akamatra

I love books with strong female characters like I’ve said in the past. I liked Libby’s character and the way she handled herself in various situations. I also liked the friendly atmosphere depicted in the book. I wasn’t raised in a village but I am familiar with the close relationships found in one. Everybody knows everyone and everyone helps out when need be.  Read more here

Joanna Larum’s Reviews

This grabbed my interest immediately as I enjoy history and I couldn’t wait to begin reading. A body is found and the letter is proved to be a fake but the play still goes on.   Read more here

Donna’s Book Blog

I enjoyed the plot line for this one and it had a few good twists and turns built in to the plot which kept me engaged to the end.  The book had a good pace and the characters were well developed and I will definitely be looking to read some of the author’s previous books.  Read more here

Beth in a Box

Having never read any of the previous books in the series it’s always a worry that the characters and plot won’t sit just right. While there’s a couple of references to past events in the book, it wasn’t at all detrimental. In fact, I loved that the main characters were so well developed. Each had their own place and positions within the group. They all complimented each other beautifully.  Read more here

Ginger Book Geek

‘Murder & The Glovemaker’s Son’ is extremely well written.  As soon as I read the first page I just knew that this would be one book that I would find hard to put down and so it proved.  I became seriously addicted to reading it and when I had to put the book down, I found myself practically counting down the time until I could pick it up again.  Read more here

Mumsy Midwife

I don’t want to say too much about the story and spoil the book for you, but after having the chance to read this, I am definitely going to go and read the earlier books in the series, which are available on Amazon.  Read more here

Linda Strong Book Reviews

The mystery is solidly written with twists and turns along the way. The characters are wonderful. I love how all the residents of this village watch out for each other. As usual in such a place, you have a few that appear perfectly normal.. and some that don’t.  Read more here

On the Shelf Reviews

So this is the 19th book in the series, yes you read that right 19th, this has to be one of the longest running book series I’ve come across in years. I actually haven’t read any of the other books myself and I found there was a handy little glossary of regular characters in the front, which helped me to make sense of who was who etc.  Read more here

FEATURE FRIDAY – Janice Frost. #featurefriday #TeamJoffeBooks #policeprocedural #crimefiction #detectivebook @janice579021

Today my Friday Feature spotlights Janice Frost author of the bestselling Merry & Neil series. There are currently 5 books in this brilliant Police Detective series. First we hear about Janice’s walking hobby and her thoughts on her publisher: Joffe Books and then all about her books. I hope you enjoy reading.

My walking hobby by Janice Frost

I spend a lot of time sitting down writing, and I also love reading, which is  another occupation that doesn’t involve moving much, so it’s just as well, that, like my character, Jim Neal in the ‘Secrets’ series, I too, enjoy a good long walk.

Walking’s a great way of throwing off the stresses of everyday life and recharging the batteries. It’s also fun, healthy, and you can do it any time. Best of all, it’s free! All you need to do is get yourself out of the house and start putting one foot in front of the other. This year I’ve challenged myself to walk a thousand miles!

My first walking memories are bound up with family holidays, of walking along sandy beaches, and cliff paths near the seaside towns of St Andrews and Oban. Later, I walked more widely in Scotland, discovering ancient forests, shining lochs, fairy tale castles and, of course, the dreaded midge.

Walking’s a great way to connect with nature. Once, walking in woodland near Aviemore, I was stopped in my tracks by a herd of deer crossing the path in front of me. In Northumberland and the Lake District I’ve often been lucky enough to spot red squirrels, and on the island of Eigg, in the Inner Hebrides, I watched a ewe giving birth to a lamb in the wild, almost missing the ferry back to the mainland in the process. sheep

Usually though, it’s sheep, sheep, and more sheep. I don’t mind. Sheep are okay.

I like having something to aim for when I set off for a walk. When the boys were young, my husband and I used to bribe them with the promise of a spectacular waterfall or secret caves to explore along the route. But it can be something as simple as a bridge, a particular favourite being High Sweden Bridge in the Scandale valley near Ambleside in the Lake District.

trigOr a trig point. I love trig points! Here’s a picture of me with the trig point at the summit of Loughrigg Fell in the Lake District. The other one’s at the top of Red Screes. It’s silly how many photos I’ve taken of these things!     trig 2

I think my enthusiasm for walking spills over into my novels. In Her Husband’s Secret, the murder victim’s body is discovered in a lime wood. This was inspired by my own experience of walking in the

Lincolnshire Limewoods. But, honestly, I’m not always thinking of murder when I’m exploring the great outdoors.woods.jpg

Sometimes I don’t think about anything at all. That’s another thing I like about walking. I can use it to get away from everything and focus my mind on the plot of my latest book, or I can use it to block out any anxieties about my writing and just be mindful of my body and my surroundings.

I can see similarities between the writing process and walking. A book is written one word at a time, a walk completed one step at a time. In both cases it’s a matter of just keeping on going until you get to THE END

WORKING WITH JOFFE BOOKS

When I was looking for a publisher for my first detective novel, Dead Secret, I was attracted to Joffe Books because of their open submissions policy. I remember how thrilling it was to read my first email from Jasper, saying that he’d like to work with me. Since then, I’ve realised that I wasn’t just lucky to have found a publisher for my work, but to have found this publisher.

Being a newbie, I was worried about everything, from signing a contract to dealing with the edited version of my book. I needn’t have worried. Right from the start, I felt supported and encouraged. Jasper dealt personally with all my questions, no matter how basic. I imagine he must have rolled his eyes a few times!

With Joffe books, you can be confident that the final version of your book will be the very best it can be. The editing process is rigorous, and Jasper and his team work tirelessly to ensure that every detail is right before a book is published. I love that I’m consulted about every decision along the way.

I’ve learned that although you write a book in isolation, it’s a team effort to get it out there. I consider myself very lucky indeed to be part of such a great team, which also includes other Joffe writers and all the wonderful bloggers who do so much to promote out books on Social Media. JANICE FROSTBiography

I am the author of four crime/mystery books featuring Detectives Jim Neal and Ava Merry. My novels are set in the fictitious East Midlands cathedral city of Stromford.

Dead Secret sees Jim and Ava pairing up to investigate the murder of a teenage girl. It is their first major case together and the two soon discover that they have very different personalities. Neal is intellectual and considered, Ava clever and occasionally reckless. Both are passionate about the job they do but have to work hard at being an effective team.

Dead Secret reached #13 in the Amazon Kindle Store and Dark Secret reached #10. Both books spent several weeks in the Top 100. Her Husband’s Secret was published in November 2016 and the fourth book in the series, Their Fatal Secrets in November 2017. A fifth book is underway.

I am originally from West Lothian in Scotland but moved to London in my early twenties. I lived and worked in the East End for ten years before moving to Lincolnshire where I currently live with my husband and two grown-up sons. When not reading or writing, I enjoy walking in the hills absorbing the scenery.

I am delighted to be published by the wonderful Joffe Books.

What the readers are saying:

Joanna Larum’s Reviews

The action rushes on until we are given all the answers at the end. (I won’t spoil it!)
Stewart Giles books are always a pleasure to read with so many ins and outs and possible perpetrators. The reader is kept on the edge of his/her seat and, I find, ignores everything in order to reach the end of the story. I would highly recommend this book to all lovers of police procedural and also those with a love of the English countryside. It’s definitely 5 stars from me!  Read more here

Beth in a Box

I enjoyed The Backpacker; I found it fast-paced, energetic with just enough, um, fluff…. Sorry Stewart, I can’t think of a better word.

I enjoyed the waiting until the very end for the climax, although I had guessed correctly by about 90% who the murderer was. I liked the fact that a step forward seemed to take the team back two steps at some points.  Read more here

Turn the Page

The book is funny as well as having a fantastic storyline, that keeps you reading til the end.  Although this is third in the series you could quite easily read it alone (and then the others after)  Highly recommend this read to everyone.  Read more here

The author clearly cares about the characters in this book and this shines through in his writing.  There were certain characters that I couldn’t help but take to and there were certain characters that made me want to punch them on the nose end.  When I felt that my ‘friends’, those characters that I had taken to, were under attack I so wanted to jump inside the pages of the book to defend them.  Read more here

Linda Strong Book Reviews

There are plenty of suspects to follow in this well written crime fiction. The girl’s boyfriend who doesn’t seem too upset … the brother she hasn’t spoken to in years … members of the farm where she was found … or was this a random killing?  Read more here

Sometimes I love diving back into a series with familiar characters that I am already know and enjoy. The book isn’t that long but there’s plenty packed into it! With the fast pace I absolutely flew through it, I could not stop turning those pages!  Read more here

The plot is great, I loved the pace and the characters are spot on – I love a strong female lead and you certainly get on in this book!  The interaction between Harriet and her team was completely on point and I loved it.  Plenty of twists to keep you hooked right from the start through to the books brilliant ending – excellent!  Read more here

Daisy White’s Wicked Words

The pace and tension, plus the great atmospheric descriptions pull the whole thing together. The premise was good one, and I stayed up late to find out what happened. Harriet Taylor is a likeable detective, with a few edges that work well with the whole plot.  Read more here

What a book, and strong female lead. I was hooked from the first chapter. Set in rural Cornwall, a place I can easily identify with, and see while I read. Switching from the past and present had me guessing how the stories linked and intertwined with one another. The characters were every one you know and can relate too, we’ve all met these people in our lives, which helps connect the reader to the story, and you forget it’s fiction.  Read more here

Black Books Blog

The story flowed really well throughout and I was left guessing and second guessing myself whilst reading to try and figure out the link and who the murderer was before the big reveal.  When the big reveal did arrive I was shocked by the answers but really liked the way the story ended.  I also really hope this isn’t the last we have seen of Harriet and her team.  Read more here

The Quiet Geordie

The plot centres around 2 dead bodies, one from the present and one from the past. Harriet seems to be the only one concerned with discovering what happened to both bodies. Everyone else seems uninterested in the older case.  Read more here

The Backpacker cover idea 3

The Backpacker (DC Harriet Taylor #3) by Stewart Giles

Available from AMAZON

www.stewartgiles.com

From #1 best-selling author: Stewart Giles comes a new detective story set on the Cornish coast. Where the pretty villages and towns hold some very dark secrets.

WHAT IS THE SECRET AT LANDELL’S FARM?

A girl’s body is found hidden in a remote spot of a Cornish Farm. The same farm that a young girl ran towards, to escape her pursuer, many years before. Detective Harriet Taylor has to abandon her day out to investigate.
As Littlemore and the forensics team get to work they uncover another mystery hidden among the rocks.
Who would kill a young backpacker who hurt nobody? Is there a link between this and a mystery from many years ago?
As Harriet and the team get to work they find more questions than answers. What secrets is the sleepy Cornish village hiding?

This is a fast-paced page-turner that has so many twists and turns it keeps the reader guessing right up to the shocking end.

If you like Police Procedurals, then this is a series you won’t want to miss.

THE SETTING
Trotterdown and the surrounding villages is a fictional village in Cornwall. It is typical of Cornish villages with remote farms and sleepy Cornish stone cottages. However, the area is steeped in history and the residents of the quaint cottages have their share of myths and secrets making it the ideal setting for this series.

THE DETECTIVE
DC Harriet Taylor had only been married for 2 years when her philandering husband was killed in a car crash. It is common knowledge around the station that the woman who died next to him was his latest lover. Harriet transferred to Trotterdown to escape the gossip and sympathetic looks. She is now finding her way around Cornwall and getting to know the other members of the team.
