On the shelf reviews

Hello Lorna. Could you tell us a little about yourself and what made you start blogging?

Hi my name is Lorna and my blog is called On The Shelf Reviews. I’m an avid reader and unpublished writer. I didn’t actually set out to be a book blogger, it was meant to be somewhere I shared my stories and writing experiences but due to lack of inspiration and lack of confidence those plans went to the bottom of the pile. I came across an article in a writing magazine about book blogging and I thought ‘I like books, why not give it a go!’ and the rest is history.

How long have you been blogging (when you first set up your blog)

My blog On The Shelf Reviews has just celebrated its one year anniversary. I actually set it up in November 2016 but it took me until May 2017 to post anything.

When did you start joining Blog Tours and why?

It was actually less than a month after I started my blog, I’d only published one awful review, (which I have since deleted, it was that bad!) when I saw an advert looking for bloggers to be involved in blog tours. I had no idea at that point what a blog tour was but because I am such a nosey person I wanted to find out.

Do you join blog tours for a lot of publishers? About how many?

I think it would probably be quicker to name which publishers I don’t blog for lol! I do blog tours for Joffe Books, Bloodhound Books, Fahrenheit Press, Orenda, Bookouture are the few I can remember off the top of my head. On average I do about twelve blog tours a month at the moment.

What do you think of the books Joffe publish are they usually good, average, bad?

Joffe publish a lot of really high quality books, I think there was only one I’ve read by them in the last year that didn’t impress me.

Joffe Books is run differently to other publishers is the short notice of book releases a problem given how much in demand bloggers are?

I do sometimes wish they did give me a little more notice because I’ve missed out on a few of their books which I really wanted to read just because I didn’t have enough time to fit a review in.

Have you ever gone to a Joffe Launch Party? What do you think of them?

I love Joffe Launch Parties! You get to chat with the authors which makes them feel a lot more human and you can ask burning questions you have. Also its a great opportunity to speak with other bloggers and readers because frankly reading can be a bit lonely sometimes. The prize giveaways are nice too, it makes you feel appreciated.

Do you think the Joffe Blog Tour experience could be improved? If so what would you recommend?

As I said before a little more notice would be appreciated lol!!

Is there anything else you would like to say about Joffe Books, their authors or Social Media Promoter?

I think Joffe and the lovely Jill Burkinshaw do an amazing job and I’m proud to be a Joffe Crazie!
