Cancel the wedding. The groom is dead.

When a tycoon’s son is murdered the night before his wedding, the grief-stricken father offers private detective Dan Reno a life-changing bounty to find the killer.

Reno, who is nearly broke, decides he’s finally found himself in the right place at the right time. But when a band of crooked cops get involved, Reno finds himself fighting for his life.

Who committed the murder, and why? Which cops can he trust, if any?

Haunted by his murdered father and a violent past, Reno wants no more blood on his hands. But a man’s got to make a living, and backing off is not in his DNA.

Traversing the snowy alpine winter in the Sierras and the lonely deserts of Nevada, Reno must revert to his old ways to survive. Because the bounty won’t do him much good if he’s dead.

My Review

I always like to dip my toes in the water with new authors but it is always a bit of a gamble if I will love or hate.  Luckily Bloodhound authors are usually in the ‘love’ category and Dave Stanton is no exception.

The book does take a while to get going as we learn about the characters and their history but from about 30% it does start to pick up speed and this increases steadily towards a fast paced roller coaster of an ending.  I can’t wait to read the next in this series.

Meet Dan Reno, PI who dips his toes in the water as a bounty hunter when the groom, son of a rich man, at a wedding is brutally murdered the day before the ceremony and Dan Reno is tasked with finding his murderer before the police do.  The reward is more money than Dan has ever seen.

The journey to find the killer is a rocky one that sees Dan and Cody escaping with their lives by a sheer stroke of luck on more than one occasion.  Who is trying to eliminate them and why?

This is a very intriguing story that involves drugs, prostitution and corruption at dangerous levels the character building takes place at the beginning of the book so we get to know the complex characters before we really get into the story.  There is a slightly humorous vein running through the story that offsets the darkness perfectly.

Well worth the 5 stars.  I am looking forward to more from this author.

What would you do to survive in a world of ruthless criminals and drug dealers? Decide for yourself in this gripping and gritty thriller. Written by a best-selling serving police detective.

This is Rhiannon’s story. She thinks she’s a good person but to stay alive in a very violent world she will be tested to the limit.

Will Dryden wakes to discover his girlfriend Janey is dead from an overdose. Without his friend and partner in crime, he has nothing left to lose.

Meanwhile, police are called to the scene of a car accident – date night gone tragically wrong for Melissa Cooper – and left to break the news to Mel’s teenage niece, Rhiannon. For Rhiannon, it’s a devastating loss. Now she’s on her own.

Will and Rhiannon’s paths cross. Rhiannon gets sucked into the world of the drug dealers and falls into the sights of Aaron – the gang leader. He has a point to prove and is unhappy that he isn’t getting the respect he wants. Aaron takes brutal revenge when the police start to close in on him.

Can Rhiannon stay alive and save herself and Will from the murderous Aaron? Who is ruthless enough to survive?

This pulsating crime thriller takes you on an adrenaline-packed ride with a shocking end.

Perfect for fans of Kimberley Chambers, Damien Boyd, Rachel Abbott, Patricia Gibney or Mark Billingham.

My Review

I am a big fan of Charlie Gallagher and was looking forward to reading this stand-alone book.  I wasn’t disappointed and I have to say this book is very unique.  The story revolves around a 16 year old girl who has already dealt with a load of back luck and other problems that fate has thrown at her.   She is living with an Aunt, after escaping her alcoholic mother, when her aunt is killed in an RTA.  Alone again she is under the care of Social Services so she is perfectly safe right?

I absolutely love Rhiannon’s character.  She is a very believable character that builds depth throughout the book.  Instead of folding under all the misfortune that comes her way this feisty kid refuses to be cowed and determined to do the right thing she picks herself up dusts down and prepares to take down a drug ring.  A massive challenge for an adult but for a 16 year old you would think it is near on impossible.  Meet Rhiannon – 16 going on 36 brilliance personified.

Charlie has created a 16 year old that is exactly what a 16year old is from the language and actions to reactions.  He has perfectly found how to describe the mannerisms and personality I would expect of a girl that age who has seen far too much of the reality of alcohol addiction.

She becomes entangled in the lives of Drug dealers who are trying to take over the village where she is temporarily homed.  She is determined to save the alcoholic William and he in turn tries to save her they form a friendship but if Rhi is to save William she has a massive job on her hands without the help of the Drug dealers who think he shopped them to the police.

It is a fast paced thriller that keeps the pages turning as we are taken on a roller coaster ride with twists and turns a many and I didn’t have a clue how it was going to turn out.  If I thought it was fast paced at the beginning from about 75% the pace picks up and the adrenaline pumps as we are treated to a mind blowing conclusion you will not forsee.

One of the best books I have read this year and is definitely on my ‘Picks of 2018’ list.  Definitely worth the 5 stars and more.

THOMAS BLADEN SERIES
Book 1: STANDPOINT
Book 2: LINE OF SIGHT
Book 3: CAUSE & EFFECT
Book 4: SHADOW STATE
Book 5: FLASHPOINT

My Review

This is the first book I have read by Derek and is book 5 in the Thomas Bladen series.  It works well as stand-alone but think it would be more enjoyable to have read the series from the beginning.

The book starts with a bang in the form of a terrorist attack and the suspense keeps building.    When 2 of their bosses disappear Thomas and Karl are charged with finding them.

There are many twists and turns to the story as we are taken on a tour of the corrupt underworld of the security services.

With all the odds against success with Thomas survive and just what happened to Christine?

A fast moving story with characters that develop well I really enjoyed this book and will be reading the back list.

Discover Detective Tom Mariner in this critically acclaimed series.

‘Collett is a wonderful writer, subtle, clever, strong on atmosphere and character.’ Yorkshire Post

Just when DI Tom Mariner seems to be settling down with his new girlfriend . . . everything kicks off.

First, a badly decomposed body of a young woman is found in a Birmingham sewer. The police can’t identify her and dub her “Madeleine.”

Then an important politician and his wife are shot on an isolated road.

And finally, a bomb explosion in the busy city kills 5 people, causing chaos and panic.

Can Detective Mariner and his team get to the bottom of crimes that will come very close to home for his team.
Mariner will need to bend the rules and risk everything to get to the truth. And in a thrilling conclusion, his own life will be at risk.

Discover an absorbing crime mystery full of stunning twists and turns.

Perfect for fans of Peter James, Ian Rankin and Peter Robinson. This is the third book in the DI MARINER SERIES, more books coming soon!

THE SETTING
Birmingham is a city of stark contrasts with a rich cultural and historical heritage. Playing a key role in the industrial revolution, it helped shape the nation’s manufacturing industry

But with its many green spaces, Birmingham also borders on the beautiful countryside of Worcestershire and Warwickshire, is just a few miles from Stratford on Avon and a short drive from the wild country of mid-Wales.

Birmingham’s population is large and ethnically diverse, and while urban regeneration has forged a modern and culturally vibrant city, the decaying remnants of the industrial past and 1960s concrete jungle give it a unique and gritty character; the dark underbelly policed by DI Tom Mariner and his team.

THE DETECTIVE
Detective Inspector Tom Mariner is, on the surface, an average dedicated policeman, but his experiences as a younger man have given him an insight into life on the dark side, and a clear sense of right and wrong. Mariner has little interest in material things. He lives in a modest canal-side cottage, enjoys the occasional (real) beer and game of dominoes and drives an old car. He is most at home in the outdoors, with an OS map and a compass, and in times of crisis, will take off and walk for miles in any weather.

THIS IS A REVISED EDITION OF A BOOK FIRST PUBLISHED AS “WRITTEN IN BLOOD.”

Faith Martin has been writing for over 25 years, in four genres and under four different pen names. She was born in Oxford and sets most of her crime novels within sight of the city of dreaming spires. A real nature lover and afficionado of the countryside, descriptions of wildlife and native flora often find their way into her manuscripts. Right now, JOFFE BOOKS are re-issuing the first eleven of the DI Hillary Greene novels in new updated editions! The first 8 books in the series are available now. Books 9-11 coming soon!

Her romance novels, written under the name of Maxine Barry, are now available from Corazon Books. IMPOSTERS In PARADISE, and HEART OF FIRE are both out, and others will very quickly become available in the future.

Her first foray into writing ‘spooky’ crime, (and written under the pen name of Jessie Daniels) comes out in November 2017. THE LAVENDER LADY CASEFILE is published by Robert Hale, an imprint of Crowood Press.

As Joyce Cato, she writes more classically-inspired ‘proper’ whodunits. So if you like an amateur sleuth, plenty of clues and red herrings, plus a baffling murder mystery to solve, these are the books for you.

I am a huge fan of this series, I love Hillary’s character and I find the books very easy to read, they are not full of unnecessary violence or graphic sex scenes and sometimes that is exactly what I want.  Read more here

Daisy White’s Wicked Words

This is another slick novel from Faith Martin, which puts me in mind of Inspector Morse, or similar. Lots of suspects, clever loose ends which are all tied off in a very satisfying manner at the end.  Read more here

Looking for a brilliant best-selling murder mystery with a feisty female detective?

Meet DI HILLARY GREENE, a policewoman struggling to save her career and catch criminals.

Mattie Jones is found brutally stabbed to death in her palatial home. Hillary Greene is called in to investigate the murder of this wealthy woman.

Hillary discovers that Mattie’s snobby attitude had made her many enemies. Mattie was also going through a messy divorce and had a secret lover.

Meanwhile, in a terrifying turn of events, police officers are being gunned down outside their stations. A sniper is on the loose.

Can Hillary cope with the enemies within, a complex case, and the whole force under attack?

MURDER IN THE  MANSION is the eighth in a series of page-turning crime thrillers set in Oxfordshire.
Perfect for fans of Agatha Christie, Colin Dexter, or Ruth Rendell.

THE LOCATION
Many villages on the borders of the Cotswolds have more than their fair share of large, impressive, Cotswold stone ‘mansions’ – homes in times past to the professional classes and farmers.  Large, mostly Georgian, with traditional kitchen gardens, orchards, and ornamental plantings, they are quintessentially English.

THE DETECTIVES
DI Hillary Greene
An attractive woman in her forties, Hillary Greene is a police officer of many years’ experience, and came up through the ranks. Consequently, she knows how the system works, and is fiercely loyal to the force without being blinkered to its faults. She is a long-standing friend of her immediate superior officer, ‘Mellow’ Mallow and enjoys a rather enigmatic relationship with the steely Superintendent Marcus Donleavy. Popular with the rank and file for her no-nonsense attitude and competence.

DCI Philip ‘Mellow’ Mallow
Mel appreciates Hillary’s first-rate ability to solve her cases, and isn’t happy about her harassment by the officers from York. Known for his sartorial elegance and laid-back manners, he has a sharp mind, and an eye for the ladies. A good friend and ally for Hillary in her recent tribulations, he’s determined to keep his best investigator focused on the problems at hand.

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A REVISED EDITION OF A BOOK FIRST PUBLISHED AS “DOWN A NARROW PATH.”

Joanna Larum’s Reviews

Be prepared for a dramatic ending after the full horror of Man’s inhumanity and the problems of public figures with twisted private lives are revealed. I would thoroughly recommend reading this novel although I wouldn’t recommend starting it if you have a timetable to adhere to – you will miss appointments and meals until you’ve finished it!  Read more here

The story is a nice change from some of the books I have read as it is set in the 1960’s so there are no modern investigative tools to be used and no mobile phones or internet, so all research has to be done manually.  Read more here

My Review

Daisy White author photo pngAuthor Bio:

Hi I’m Daisy White – mum, entrepreneur, and writer. I started off self-publishing, then signed YA series to two fabulous US publishers.

I’ve always wanted to write crime but none of my initial manuscripts were anywhere near good enough to show the world!

In 2016 I rewrote an earlier idea and entered it into the UK International Novel Writing Competition. It was long-listed and that gave me the confidence I needed to submit to publishers.

My second crime novel for Joffe Books, ‘Before I Found You’ is out Feb 2018, and my first story for younger children will be published in an anthology for Patchwork Raven later this year. I’m also finishing off a standalone thriller, which I’m really excited about!

As well as writing, I give talks, workshops and signings. Writing is an obsession, a compulsion and a love, but like most writers I also diversify to pay the bills!
