THE KILLER INSIDE

Thank you to Netgalley who provided me with an ARC of this book in return for a honest review.

This is the first book I the Jessica Daniels series. What I have found in series books is that book 1 is, usually, largely devoted to introducing and building the characters which is the case with this book. I believe this book is also available under the title Locked In but, personally, I much prefer The Killer Inside it is a clever title on many levels.

Jessica has reached a high position in the police at a relatively young age and lacks some maturity and self – confidence. She certainly has the makings of an excellent detective and I look forward to watching her development in subsequent books.

The story is an unusual and intriguing one. Seemingly random people are found strangled in locked houses. There are signs that it is the same killer but how did he get out of a house with the keys locked inside and what is the link between the victims?

As Jessica uses all her in instincts to find way forward in the case at work her flatmate / best friend has fallen in love leaving Jessica feeling very alone.

There are very unique and unusual characters in this book but it all works very well with twists and turns all the way through it is a very good read. It didn’t quite tick all the boxes for me and therefore earns a good 4.4 stars. I look forward to reading the next in the series.
