**Warning ** There is a pirate copy of this book with viruses check you are purchasing the legitimate version.

I have read all Simon Wood’s backlist and am now reduced to reading them as they are released. This book is well written and professional as I expect from Simon.

First appearances with this book is that it was very similar to Dead on Demand by Sean Campbell but that opinion changed as I progressed through the book. However, I did find this book to differ from Simon’s previous books but The One That Got Away was always going to be a hard act to follow.

Keeping an open mind and not making comparisons it is a gripping read with many red herrings and twists and turns that keep the reader turning page after page.

The main character is Olivia who decides to take down a violent organization after an attempt to teach her cheating husband a lesson goes tragically awry. I found Olivia’s character to lack depth even after reading the last page I still didn’t feel I ‘knew’ her. Her ‘partner in crime’ was also a bit wishy washy for me. I did, however, like the Detective I felt he was a very ‘clued up’ person and would like to see him feature in future books.

On the down side the book raised questions that were not answered and I also thought the ending was not quite the ending.

That said the book earns a very good 4.3 stars (unfortunately this rounds to 4) and I am looking forward to more books by Simon.

I was provided with a free copy of this book from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
